I made a trip over the bridge into Windsor to pickup an Ransack the Universe IPA from Collective Arts Brewing, in Hamilton, Ontario. Ransack the Universe it their flagship IPA,…
This right here… is an anomaly – it is the first ever non-sour IPA that Jolly Pumpkin has ever released. If you don’t believe me that it’s a non-sour IPA and that it’s from Jolly Pumpkin, you can take a gander at the label for yourself. This was released exclusively at Jolly Pumpkin’s Dexter Taproom during the Zwanze Day 2018 celebration, which yours truly attended. Keep your eyes open for my first ever Beer Fest Vlog at Zwanze Day, which should be coming out in the next few days. In the meantime, watch this review and get my impressions on Jolly Pumpkin’s first ever non-sour IPA!(more…)
Barrel Runner is the 4th of Founder’s Barrel Aged series of beers in 2018, and this time it’s not a stout (KBS), a scotch ale (Backwoods Bastard), or a Red IPA (Dank Wood), but it is another IPA – and it’s not bourbon barrel aged either. This time they went all out with a mosaic hopped IPA aged in rum barrels to give it a bit of a tropical, spiced taste. Will Barrel Runner make you want to hide your treasure? Is the eye patch included with the 4 pack or bomber? Watch and see!
I’ll be the first to admit that I can’t totally tell the difference between all the hops being used in beer – I just know when I like a beer. But, in the case of Mosaic hops, I think I’m starting to be able to pick out more and more characteristics as I try more and more beers that use Mosaic.
My first brush with Petoskey’s beer was in their NE IPA – Juicy, and I wasn’t overly impressed with it, but I’m always open to try more from any brewery. Cosmati Mosiac is that second impression, and this time I was really pleasantly suprised.
