Odd Side Ales Bourbon Maple Wishes and Pecan Dreams is a Barrel Aged Porter that weighs in at 11% ABV. This was part of their yearly black Friday release along with Rye Hipster Stout, Raisins Almonds and Figs Oh My!, and Big Kahuna, but enough was left over for a small amount to hit distribution. I haven’t had a barrel aged porter before, so I’m ready to jump in and get a taste of that maple, bourbon and pecan flavor!Continue reading “Odd Side Ales – Bourbon Maple Wishes and Pecan Dreams”
Coming to you from the Southwest side of the state, it’s my first taste of Coconut Porter from Paw Paw brewing (aka 2 Paws) in Paw Paw Michigan. I’m a fan of porters, and I enjoy coconut porters – which are difficult to do the right way. Is this going to tickle my fancy or get my ire instead? Stay tuned to find out for sure!
Reviewing beer, I try a lot of different types of beer. I feel like one of the most overpromised and under delivered beer flavors is peanut butter. Jaden James Monkey Butter Porter (aka Peanut Butter Porter) is one of the first porters that I’ve had that puts exactly what you get in the beer on it’s cans. Watch this video for my full rundown of one of Michigan’s best porters.
Petoskey Brewing’s Robusta Nut is a Coconut Chocolate Porter that weighs in at 5.5%, which is fairly typical for a porter – where it attempts to stand out is by not only having flavors of coconut, but chocolate too. There are plenty of coconut porters on the market – and a lot of good ones here in Michigan, but I don’t know too many that attempt to weave chocolate into their flavor profile as well. How does it all hash out in the end? Stay tuned to find out!
As you can see from the title of this review, this was probably one of my favorite beers I tried from the 2017 Michigan Fall Beer Festival. I wasn’t sure if this had been previously released from Pigeon Hill but I was happy to see that they released this one in can form. The only other experience I’ve had so far with Pigeon Hill was during my Michigan Oktoberfest Extravaganza, and it ended up taking away top honors.
