New Holland is finally diving headfirst into the New England style IPA market with their first offering – Tangerine Space Machine. While other breweries in the state saw the success of M43, it seems like New Holland took a little more patience and methodical approach – and what we get here is definitely a refined NE IPA that clearly had a lot of thought put behind it. Batch 8000 from Short’s Brewing is a Quadruple IPA weighing in at a whopping 15.8% – Let that soak in for a minute. This is one of the strongest beers I’ve had in recent memory and probably also one of the smoothest that I’ve had that is this strong. The raspberry flavor covers the alcohol bite and contributes to that smoothness. Is this something you should buy? Watch and find out!
While I’m busy digging out of this hardcore winter weather we’re seeing, I took the time to check out Boatyard Brewing Company’s Lake Effect Double IPA. Lake Effect Double IPA is one of the maltiest double IPAs I’ve ever tasted. Where most beers in this style usually try and smash your teeth out with piney hoppiness, Boatyard goes in a different direction and I find that to be extremely intriguing and refreshing.
