Grand Armory Brewing – Cloudy with a Chance of Hops New England Style Double IPA

Grand Armory Brewing out of Grand Haven, MI is one of those breweries that you always hear so many great things about, but being on the east side of the state, you don’t get much of a chance to try very often. While on my travels around the state, I saw Cloudy with a Chance of Hops on a shelf and picked it up immediately. Being a big fan of NE IPAs, and seeing all the diversity there is out there in the style – this was a must have. Grand Armory does not disappoint – now if only I could get their stuff on the east side more easily!

Brewery Vivant’s Tart Side of the Moon – A Tart Imperial Stout?

My mind was kind of blown when I tried Brewery Vivant’s Pumpin Tart, because it took what I liked about pumpkin ales and added that extra twist of tartness. Well, guess what? They’re back at it again and this time it’s a tart imperial stout called “Tart Side of the Moon”. Weighing in at 9.5%, it’s sure to be a doozy.

Pigeon Hill – Salted Caramel Porter Review

As you can see from the title of this review, this was probably one of my favorite beers I tried from the 2017 Michigan Fall Beer Festival. I wasn’t sure if this had been previously released from Pigeon Hill but I was happy to see that they released this one in can form. The only other experience I’ve had so far with Pigeon Hill was during my Michigan Oktoberfest Extravaganza, and it ended up taking away top honors.

Odd Side Ales – The Nightman Leaveth Imperial Rye Milk Stout Review

It’s hard to not compare this to Odd Side’s other recent bourbon barrel aged stout – Hazel’s Nuts. While they seem to be very similar on the outside, I found that they were quite different when compared against each other. I enjoyed the break from the bourbon barrel to the rye whiskey barrel, but watch to see which I enjoyed more, and to find out more about Odd Side, check out their site at: oddsideales.com (more…)

Boatyard Brewing’s Hazy Sunset IPA Review

A friend of mine (whatup Dave!) called me from his local bottle shop to let me know that they had this new Boatyard NE Style IPA, and I was anxious to try it. I have never had a beer from Boatyard before, but I know they really started distributing a lot in my area and after this taste of theirs, you better be sure that I’m going to be on the lookout for it in the future.
