Bell’s Official – A Hazy, Juicy NE IPA
Bell’s Official is a hazy, juicy IPA in the New England Style from Bell’s Brewery in Comstock, Michigan. It’s Bell’s official entry in the hazy IPA style – it uses pungent american hops combined with wheat and pilsen malts which result in what they call a smooth, aromatic, juicy IPA. At 6.4% ABV, it doesn’t break the scale, but does it compare with other New England style IPAs in Michigan, and can it hold it’s own against other widely distributed New England style IPAs from outside of the state? In addition to the regular review, I also bring in some surprise competitors to see how it stands up so stay tuned!

Bell’s Side Yard Ale
When I think of Bell’s beer, I think of more traditional styles, like Expedition Stout, Winter White and Two Hearted Ale. What I don’t think of is a New England Style IPA, and that’s exactly what I have here today – Bell’s first EVER!!! New England Style IPA, Side Yard Ale. They decided to not go too crazy with different hop varieties and stuck with Chinook hops, which were freshly harvested from their very own hop yard. This is a wet-hopped NE IPA, and those chinook hops went from harvest to boil in just 4 hours! Holy Logistics, Batman! So how did Bell’s do with their first NE IPA? Watch and find out!

In their debut canning run from a new canning line, Ascension Brewing Company in Novi has released Spool Toorf, a 9.2% New England Style IPA that uses froot loops, lactose, marshmallow and double dry hopped with galaxy and mosaic hops. Trillium Brewing Company – Permutation Thirty-Three Double IPA Review
Going back to mid-April, I took a trip out to Boston and was able to check out Trillium Brewing Company’s downtown location.
